My Journey
Christine Rottar Studio began from a lifelong need to create and a deep fascination with colour. I have always been drawn to the way thick oil paint moves across a canvas - how texture, layering, and bold pigment can transform a simple surface into something alive. There is something endlessly compelling about watching colour interact, collide, soften, and surprise.
What keeps me painting is the challenge. I love “solving” a painting- working through uncertainty, building layers, stepping back, and returning again until the piece feels complete. Each work begins with inspiration from nature or my surroundings- sometimes photographs taken during walks in local flower farms and open landscapes- but it evolves intuitively. The process is as important as the result. It is discovery, problem-solving, and expression all at once.
In a world that moves quickly and often digitally, there is something grounding about a painting made slowly by hand. Thick brushstrokes, visible marks, colour that feels human and connects us.
I also create because I want my children to see what is possible. I want them to understand that artists contribute meaningfully to the world- that creativity is valuable, courageous, and worth pursuing. I want them to grow up believing they can build something of their own, follow their curiosity, and bring beauty into the lives of others.
Through Christine Rottar Studio, I create expressive paintings designed to bring joyful colour, warmth, and presence into the home- pieces that invite connection and continue to reveal themselves over time.
Vision Statement
